WEEK'S SCHEDULE (3), SEPT. 23, 2013

WEEK'S EYE-OPENER: Give me the luxuries of life and I can do without the necessities. KEY DATES: 1. During the third class period of the week, you will have a quiz on chapters 3 and 4 in Colander plus the Introduction and first chapter in Dan Ariely's Predictably Irrational, and the article, The Rich Get Richer Through the Recovery. There will be two essay questions. 1. Based on the article, The Rich Get Richer Through the Recovery," explain why the wealth gap widening. Should something be done about it? 2. What have you learned about individual choice from the Ariely reading? 2. On Friday, Nov. 29, your stock selection research paper is due. LONG PERIOD: 1. We will view an 18 minute clip on the Federal Reserve that was aired on Charlie Rose on Sept. 20. When you watch the video, focus on what you can learn about the state of our economy. WEEK'S SCHEDULE (26), APRIL 8, 2013

EYE-OPENER OF THE WEEK:  The world wants to be deceived, therefore let it be deceived. Hitler's favorite saying. KEY DATE: 1. During the second class period of the week, we will have a quiz on chapter 12. 2. During the second class period of the week April 15, we will have a test on chapter 13 in Colander and chapter 12 in Wheelan. THE LONG PERIOD: you will use it for group work for round 6. CLASS ONE: we will have a debrief on round 5 and we will review the second half of chapter 12 for the quiz tomorrow. HOMEWORK: prepare for QUIZ on chapter 12. CLASS TWO: QUIZ on chapter 12 and current events article, European Planted the Seeds of Crisis in Cyprus. HOMEWORK: please read chapter 13, The Financial Sector and the Economy up to "How Banks Create Money. CLASS THREE: we will discuss the reading. HOMEWORK: finish the chapter on the Financial Sector. CLASS FOUR: we will discuss the reading. HOMEWORK: read chapter 11 in Wheelan, International Economics.

EYE-OPENER OF THE WEEK: When you can recognize that someone is talking rot, you are an educated man. Lord Action KEY DATES: 1. On Monday, Feb. 25, we will debrief round 2. 2. On Thursday, Feb. 28, Glenn Weinstein will speak to us about the municipal bond market. 3. On Monday, March 4, we will have a quiz on the Wheelan chapter on special interests, Glenn Weinstein's talk and chapter 10 in Colander on The Aggregate Demand/Aggregate Supply Model. 4. On Wednesday, March 6, Steve Kaplan will talk to us about income inequality and CEO pay. The long period. The extra half hour in the long period will be devoted to group work for round 3 of the Capsim simulation. CLASS ONE: we will debrief round 2 and discuss chapter 7 in Wheelan on special interests. Period 3 will also work as groups on round 3 of the Capsim assignment. HOMEWORK: please read chapter 10 on The Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply Model up to The Short-Run Aggregate Supply Curve. Omar Khayyam KEY DATES: 1. On Monday, Feb. 18, Jordan Novak will debrief the first round for us. 2. During the third class period, we will have a TEST on chapters 8 and 9. 3. On Thursday, Feb. 28, Glenn Weinstein will speak to us about the municipal bond market. 4. On Wednesday, March 6, Steve Kaplan will talk to us about income inequality and CEO pay. The extra half hour of the long period will be used for group work for round 2 CLASS ONE: debrief on round one by Jordan Novak. Work on round 2 in groups. CLASS TWO: we will discuss all of chapter 9 in period 3 and the second half of chapter 9 in period 6. CLASS THREE: TEST on chapters 8 and 9. HOMEWORK: please read chapter 8 in Wheelan on Organized Interests.

WEEK'S SCHEDULE(14), DEC. 17, 2012

EYE-OPENER OF THE WEEK: Where's the man who could ease the heart like a satin gown? Dorothy Parker KEY DATE: 1. John Rogers and Charles Bobrinskoy  will speak on Value Investing during the third period class. Students in the sixth period section, please try to attend. LONG PERIOD:  we will read selections from Nate Silver's The Signal and the Noise in preparation for the Ariel talk on Wednesday. CLASS ONE: We will discuss the first half of chapter 20 on Who Gets What? The Distribution of Income. HOMEWORK: finish chapter 20. CLASS TWO: THE ARIEL TALK during third period. BOTH sections should attend. CLASS THREE: we will discuss the second half of chapter 20 and the Ariel talk. HOMEWORK: please read chapter 17 on Real World Competition and Technology. CLASS FOUR: we will discuss chapter 17. HOMEWORK: NONE!

During the second class period of the week, we will have a QUIZ on chapter 10 and on the rest of the Learn to Earn packet.  There will be one essay question on the Lynch packet. 3. On Monday, Nov. 5, your Capsim assignment on a new product introduction is due. 4. On Friday, November 30, your stock selection paper is due. See the course syllabus for details. Your Capsim assignment on Situational Analysis is due online by 8:00 am. on Monday. 2.  During the SECOND class period of the week, we will have quiz on chapters 3 and 4 plus the on the article, The Magician and the Michael Lewis reading. There will be one essay from the non-Colander readings. 3. On Monday, Oct. 8, your elasticity Capsim assignment is due at 8 am and you will have a QUIZ on chapter 5, Using Supply and Demand and chapter 7, Describing Supply and Demand: Elasticities. There will an essay  from  Setting the Right Price at the Right Time. CLASS ONE: we will read and discuss Washington versus America.
